With the rise in the number of patients with deadly infections like AIDS and Hepatitis – B because of the indiscriminate disposal of the health care waste , the concern of the bio-medical waste management has become a global issue which needs to be resolved. Health care waste has been classified as the second most hazardous waste, first being the radioactive waste, by the UN through Basal convention. Due to the lack of training and appropriate skills, adequate equipment and insufficient resource allocation, the sound health care waste management has not been established.

The health care waste management course has been initiated and developed to create the basic awareness about the practices of Health Care Waste Management and equip the students with ample skills for effective management of health care waste by safeguarding the community against various hazardous health impacts of the health care waste.
